Sustainable Development Goals
At Responsible Travel Africa, we are committed to making a difference in Rwanda and Uganda through sustainable and responsible tourism. Our mission is not only to showcase the stunning beauty of these countries but also to create a meaningful and lasting impact on the communities we serve.
Our efforts are guided by the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) (https://sdgs.un.org/goals), which we incorporate into every aspect of our work, such as quality education, sustainable communities, decent work, gender equality and investment in infrastructure.
Contribute to Communities
Each year, we allocate a significant portion of our profits to impactful community projects and local initiatives we believe in.
Our main initiative for 2025 is the construction of a new kitchen for Gisakura Kindergarten School.
Construct a new kitchen for the Gisakura Kindergarten School
Located in Kinigi, close to Volcano National Park, the Gisakura kindergarten school was founded in 2014 by Theodore Nzabonimpa. In Rwanda, public schools only start at the age of 7. Kindergartner school are privatized and often not affordable for many Rwandese parents. He saw the need for affordable education at this age, supporting both the children and the parents.
With support from his organization, as well as his family and community, construction of the school began in 2019. The school officially opened its doors to students on April 14, 2021, and has continued to grow.
Today, Gisakura Kindergarten employs three teachers and five additional staff members who ensure the property remains safe and clean. The school currently serves over 70 children aged 4 to 7, providing them with access to quality education, and nutritious warm meals – made possible by the voluntary contributions of companies, communities, and tourists.
Knowing Theodore personally, we are honored to support a project we deeply believe in. By constructing a new kitchen using high-quality, sustainable materials, we aim to make a lasting contribution to the school’s infrastructure and its ability to serve the community.
Volunteering Opportunities
We offer unique opportunities for tourists to volunteer in local community projects. Whether it’s teaching at a kindergarten, assisting in a primary school, or working and living in a traditional women pottery community, these activities go beyond regular tourism– they serve as a bridge connecting travelers with local culture and communities.
All fees collected from these programs are directly reinvested into the projects, ensuring that your contribution has a tangible and lasting impact.
