11 Days Primates Trek and Cultural Experience in Uganda

Explore the primates of Uganda from trekking the endangered mountain gorilla, the beautiful golden monkeys and a unique chance to participate in chimpanzee habituation on this 10 days primate safari. You will also walk with zebras, boat cruise with hippos and meet locals for an authentic cultural experieznce.
Trip Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival
On your arrival at Entebbe International Airport, you will be welcomed by Responsible Travel Africa representative and transferred to the hotel in Kampala
Day 2: Day 2 Kampala Walking City Tour
Today begins with a visit to the Kampala City originally built on seven hills now widened and spread to over twenty-two hills. You will explore the city attractions from religious, culture and heritage to local markets. Overnight stay at the lodge
Day 3: Drive To Kibale National Park And Bigodi Swamp Walk
After breakfast, you will transfer to Kibale National Park one of the best places for bird-watching and chimpanzee viewing in Uganda. Arrive in time for lunch and later go for an evening walk around Bigodi Swamp. This swamp is unique in that it sits right at the junction of central African rainforests and the East African Rift Valley.
This wonderful place shelters over 200 species of birds including Hornbills, Turacos, Parrots, Cranes, Kingfishers and many more swamp endemics. A 4,5km long walk will take you through this important wildlife corridor of Kibale Forest and will take up to 3h. Overnight stay at the lodge.
Day 4: Chimpanzee Habituation Experience
Wake up early, have breakfast, grab your packed lunch and accompany researchers and habituators into the forest for chimpanzee habituation experience. The chimpanzee groups involved are less accustomed to human presence that following and viewing them is both exciting and challenging. You will watch them leaving their overnight nest, observe them feeding, copulating, hunting, breastfeeding, resting, patrolling and displaying until it is time to build new nests around 7pm. Return to the lodge for an overnight.
Day 5: Batooro Village Walk And Transfer To Bwindi National Park
After breakfast, go for a village walk and learn about the Batooro daily life. Stop by the village’s primary school, church, and traditional healer. Learn about the role of women in the village and traditional ceremonies. After lunch, you will drive to Bwindi National Park
Day 6: Golden Monkey Trekking And Lake Bunyonyi
After breakfast, you will hike through the forests to the sight of the striking creatures, high in the dense bamboo forests on the Gahinga trail. When you encounter the golden monkey family, you will spend one hour to spend with them observing their behaviour and taking photographs.
After lunch, you will go boating on the lake while experiencing the quietness, calmness and the tranquillity of Lake Bunyonyi. Lake Bunyonyi inhabits 29 islands which are significant in Ugandan History including the most famous island Akampene known as Punishment Island. Overnight stay at the lodge
Day 8: Mountain Gorilla Trekking
Today, after breakfast, with your packed lunches you will drive to the park headquarters where park officials will brief you about gorilla trek rules and regulations. Next, you will be grouped into 8 individuals, be allocated a gorilla family to trek then head to the forest accompanied by guides and rangers as you begin you search for gorillas.
Once we find the Mountain Gorillas, we spend 1 hour watching them feed, groom and interact with each other. From here, meet your guide and drive back to the lodge for overnight.
What to wear and carry:
- Wear long trousers, long sleeve and hiking waterproof boats (to minimize the impact on wildlife, it is recommended to wear shades of green or brown). Carry gloves, a rain jacket, and a camera.
- Minimum age for mountain gorilla trekking is 15
Day 9: Walking Safari and Boat Ride
At 7:00 am, you will go for 2 hour walking safari that takes place at the western part of Lake Mburo, guaranteeing you encounters with the hippos coming out of the waters as well as the hyenas returning to their dens.
After a refreshing from the lodge, The cruise on the lake equally guarantees one a view of the amazing flora and fauna at the national park alongside wildlife such as crocodiles, hippos and bird species such as African fish eagles, pelican, kingfishers, herons, cormorants, rare shoebills and hammer kobs.

Day 10: Walking Safari and Boat Ride
At 7:00am, you will go for 2 hours walking safari that takes place at the western part of Lake Mburo, guaranteeing you encounters with the hippos coming out of the waters as well as the hyenas returning to their dens.

Day 11: Departure
After breakfast, your Responsible Travel guide will transfer you back to Entebbe International Airport for departure.
It will cost $3786 per person sharing without a gorilla permit of $700 and total will be $4486 per person including a permit
