Trip Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival
Upon arrival, you will you will be greeted by your Responsible travel Africa local guide and escorted to Gisozi Eco -lodge or Home stay experience.
Day 2: The Essence of Kigali
Venture to where the first modern building was built, and laid the foundations for Rwanda’s capital city. Explore Nyamirambo neighborhood for an authentic taste of Kigali life. Keeping the authenticity intact, go for a traditional cooking class and see how Rwandan cuisine is created and appreciated by the locals. Delve into Rwanda’s turbulent history, especially the tragic 1994 genocide by Visiting the Kigali Genocide Memorial at Gisozi; the final resting place for more than 250,000 victims of the Genocide against the Tutsi before the Campaign Against Genocide Museum. Day 3: Gatagagara Pottery and Museums
You will visit the most important traditional pottery in Rwanda, with quality production. The way the skilled craftsmen mould clay to make attractive pottery will surely surprise you. You will learn how to prepare clay, hand build, and try your hand at some throwing techniques, guided by expert potters. Proceed to the King’s palace Museum former royal capital of Rwanda to visit a replica of the king’s and look into the Rwandan monarchical system and its abolition in early 1960s due to colonialism. Continue to Huye and visit the excellent Ethnographic Museum which houses one of Africa’s finest ethnographic collections.
Day 4: Coffee Experience and Drive to Nyungwe National Park
Black as the devil, hot as hell, pure as an angel, sweet as love! We all love coffee. Visit a coffee plantation to learn how the country produces some of the world’s best coffee beans and how coffee seeds grow into beans and become the flavorful drink in your cup. After lunch proceed to Nyungwe National Park for overnight
Day 5: Chimpanzee Trekking and Igishigishi Trail
Set off early to start your trek in search of chimpanzees in the picturesque surroundings of Nyungwe Forest National Park. Once located spend one hour with your distant cousins. Afternoon proceed with a short hike that will amaze you with majestic views of the Canopy Walkway and dazzling wildflowers. The views from up here are stunning, and the adrenaline will no doubt be rushing through as you walk 60m above the forest floor.
Day 6: Bigugu Trail and Tea Picking Experience
The day’s hike is 13.2 kilometers and about 6 hours on an elevation between 2950 to 2367 meters. Hiking to the top of mount Bigugu, you will be embraced with the most outstanding 360 degrees overview of the entire park from above. Participate in a unique, hands-on tea picking experience as well as enjoy the breathtaking scenery by walking in beautiful tea plantations. Overnight stay at the lodge
Day 7: Community Visit and Drive To Kigali
Become part of a beekeeping cooperative for the day and learn more about bees, how to make your own traditional beehive and how the hives work, learn how to prepare the wax and dip your own pair of bees wax candles that you get to take home with you. In the evening drive back to Kigali and head to a local restaurant to enjoy live music, dancing, and scenic vistas as you celebrate your trip during a farewell dinner.
Day 8: Departure
Spend a free morning and later transfer to the airport for your flight home.
