Trip overview

Kazi’ is Swahili for work. This is a weeklong adventure trip to Ol Pejeta Conservancy, packed with immersive behind the scenes experiences. Enrolling in the One Week Kazi grants. you will gain invaluable experience on conservation bases and start your journey as an ambassador of hope for endangered species.

Trip Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival

Upon arrival, you will you will be greeted by your Responsible travel Africa local guide and escorted to the lodge for your overnight experience.

Day 2: Nairobi Giraffe Centre and transfer to ol Pejeta

The Centre protects the highly endangered Rothschild’s giraffe, combines serious conservation with enjoyable activities. You can observe, hand-feed or even kiss one of the giraffes from a raised wooden structure, which is quite an experience. You may also spot warthogs snuffling about in the mud, and there’s an interesting self-guided forest walk through the adjacent Gogo River Bird Sanctuary. After the experience you will board a scheduled flight to Nanyuki upon arrival you will check in at the stables and later get an orientation and evening game drive of the place.

Day 3: Familiarisation

A day of familiarisation with Early morning game drive, a visit to ol pejeta nature trail, the rhino cemetery and the northern white rhinos.

You will Visit Morani information Centre and have a Close encounter with Baraka the blind rhino, our resident ambassador for black rhinos across Kenya. You will also Participate in the afternoon feeding of the northern white rhinos and baraka.

Day 4: Antipoaching Teams

A day spent with the antipoaching teams, learning about their work and training with our tracker dogs, as you try and escape their pursuit across the conservancy

Day 5: Ecological Monitoring Department

Field work with ecological monitoring department to learn about what it takes to manage a conservation area, tracking and identifying predators and assisting with vegetation monitoring

Day 6: Rhino Tracking

You will spend the day with Black rhino tracking/ monitoring team and after visit Nanyuki /equator in Nanyuki and cedar mall

Day 7: Mt. Kenya animal orphanage

Mt. Kenya animal orphanage is a unique facility to orphaned, injured abused or frightened wild animals a second chance. The orphanage provides shelter and professional care with a goal to release these creatures back into the wild where they belong. You will spend this day at the orphanage.

Day 8: Walk with Herders

Walk with the herders: come and learn how ol Pejeta integrates cattle with wildlife, and Use livestock as a means to manage the rangelands effectively. Spend half a day grazing cattle on the plains with the herders. Work with the ecological monitoring department in the office.

Day 9: Breakfast and Departure

After breakfast, you will board your connect flight to Nairobi and later connect with your international flight back.
