This uniquely active outdoor adventure provides the opportunity to hike and kayak in the country of thousand hills and top if off with culture immersion. Have your mind blown as you hike alongside one of the country’s most beautiful mountain.
Trip Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival
Upon arrival at Kigali International Airport you will be welcomed by Responsible Travel Africa guide. Enjoy the different backdrops of Rwanda as you turn along the hilly roads to your lodge.
Day 2: Mount Kabuye Hike
Enjoy a beautiful hike to the top of the country’s tallest mountain at around 2,700 meters. Listen to the call of native birds as we climb steadily up through eucalypt forest, then out into scrub battered low by the elements. Along the way see the lives of the local community and visit a primary school. On your arrival at the top, you will be welcomed by a delicious tea/ coffee followed by a delicious meal of your choice. Later, descend the hill and drive to Musanze for Overnight.
Day 3: Ngezi Lake Trail and Iny’iwacu Culture Village
After breakfast, our hike takes us to Ngezi Lake; a small scenic and a shallow crater lake at the foot of Mount Bisoke in Volcanoes National Park. Along the trail you can see spectacularly colored bird and monkeys. Visit iby’ Iwacu village and meet local people in their own environment. Be part of traditional dance performance, meet traditional healer and listen to captivating stories of ex-poachers.
Day 4: Mt. Kalisimbi hike
Early in the morning with quick breakfast, Drive to the park headquarters for legal formalities and briefing before you drive to the foothill of Bisoke where your adventure begins. Ascend for about 6 hours to reach the campsite at an altitude of 3500m. Enjoy the bonfire story telling of the former poachers who are currently involved in the conservation of the Volcanoes National Park. Overnight camping.
Day 5: Descending Mt. Kalisimbi
Wake early enough to catch the sunrise over the volcanoes before a morning cup of coffee. Hike to the summit at 4507m above sea level. After reaching on top of the high mountain with snow enjoy the great views, and then you will descend. Overnight stay at the lodge
Day 6: Handspun Umusabibu Mwiza and Imbabazi Center of Hope
Today, diving into the experience of preparing the yarn and discover how the women create organic yarn and dye it naturally with native plant materials. You’ll finish with your own custom dyed yarn for knitting, crochet or weaving to create a completely unique piece. Stop at Mugongo, the former home and plantation of long-time American resident Roz Carr, who opened her plantation to lost and orphaned children in the aftermath of the 1994 genocide. Later drive to Rubavu for Overnight stay at the lodge
Day 7: Kayaking
Today explore the beauty of Lake Kivu from the seat of kayak. After a detailed safety briefing, set off on a great day’s adventure. Spend the afternoon relaxation amid the breathtaking scenery of the surroundings. Overnight stay at the lodge.
Day 8: Kigali City Tour
After breakfast, drive to Kigali. Have lunch before a short-guided city tour of Kigali. Spend the evening at leisure and enjoy Kigali night life. Overnight stay at the hotel
Day 9: Departure
After, breakfast relax at the hotel and depart at any time to catch you flight.
