Trip Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival

Upon arrival, you will you will be greeted by Responsible Travel Africa who will escort you from the Kigali International Airport to your hotel. Enjoy a free evening.

Day 2: Kigali Urban Walking Tour

Meet your local guide and walk down bustling streets to the Kigali City Market.  Continue to the first modern building that laid the foundations for Rwanda’s capital city. From there, we will visit Nyabugogo bus park and later a water taxi to head to Kigali Genocide Memorial; the final resting place for more than 250,000 victims of the Genocide against the Tutsi. Drive to Nyamirambo for a traditional lunch buffet. In the afternoon, explore Nyamirambo neighborhood. Overnight stay at lodge

Day 3: Karisoke Reseach Center and Canoeing

After breakfast, you will leave Kigali to Musanze and go for Canoeing experience along Mukungwa River. Pass through some of the most stunning countryside Rwanda has to offer. In the afternoon, visit the Karisoke research center; established in 1967 by Dian Fossey to study about the mountain gorillas. Learn her research work about the mountain gorillas and her efforts in conserving them and ongoing projects.  Overnight stay at the lodge

Day 4: Diana Fossey Tomb Hike

On the 26th of December in 1985, Dian Fossey was found murdered in the bedroom of her cabin in the volcano Mountains. Upon finding her will, her body was laid to rest alongside the gorillas she had worked tirelessly to protect. Early morning, trek to the Dianne Fossey grave nestled between the beautiful volcanic peaks of Karisimbi and Bisoke. On the journey, learn more about Dian Fossey’s work and how her legacy. Return to the lodge for lunch and spend the afternoon at leisure.

Day 5: Muhabura Hike

This morning, after a briefing at the park headquarters, hike Rwanda’s second highest mountain at the 4,127 meters above sea level. The trail is steeper and harder but those who make to the top after such a challenging hike are rewarded with a beautiful Crater Lake, breathtaking view of Lake Burera and Ruhondo and vast plains. You will then descend and drive to the lodge for overnight.

Day 6: Twin Lakes

Free morning at the lodge and later drive to the twin lakes for a peaceful, scenic boat ride on the lakes Burera in a motorboat. Arrive in time for lunch at the lodge. Enjoy the fresh crayfish, relax and Take in amazing views of the 5 of 8 volcanoes of the virunga mountain chain. Overnight stay at the lodge

Day 7: Lake Burera Islands

It’s all very calm. Woken by songs of birds and a delicious continental breakfast await you! After fueling for the day, Cruise to Bwira and hike to the primary school and get to meet the students, teachers and spend some quality time together.  Proceed to Munanira Island and meet fishermen that have 20 years of experience. Return to the lodge for an overnight

Day 8: Drive to Kigali

Enjoy a free day on the island just resting or reading a book

Day 9: Departure

Drive back to Kigali and celebrate your trip at a farewell lunch.
